How to Celebrate Galentine's Day

What is Galentine’s Day?

No, I’m not mispronouncing Valentine’s Day, and this is not my invention! Galentine’s Day is February 13th and it is a day that women can celebrate their friendship and sisterhood by sharing fun memories. This holiday was introduced on the popular TV show Parks and Recreation in 2010 and has been growing in popularity ever since. Some like to enjoy delicious food together, share gifts, or even try new experiences all in celebration of their love for each other. I don’t know about you, but I love my girlfriends and we all are stretched thin with little time left to actually enjoy each other.

Galentine’s Day Ideas

Get Out with Your Girls

Now that Galentine’s Day has become more popular, it’s common for local businesses to host Galentine’s Day themed events. For example, in Raleigh I have found specials at spas, painting classes at a community center, special brunch menus and day parties. One of the downtown bakeries is hosting a cupcake decorating and wine tasting event, and I wouldn’t be surprised if your favorite fine dining restaurant is even hosting a special dinner menu during Galentine’s Week.

Do Something Unique with Your Girls

How many times would you take the time to get a new piercing with your girlfriend or even a new tattoo? Galentine’s Day can be a perfect day to do something that makes lifelong memories. If you want to do something less painful, try doing something creative and fun like a paint & sip party where you can take home an original art piece or visit a local pottery studio and throw some clay for Galentine’s Day.

Throw a Soireé in Your Home

One of my favorite things to do with my girlfriends is go to brunch! How sweet would it be to host a Galentine’s Brunch in your home and serve up mimosas, fruit, homemade waffles, cheesy grits, eggs, bacon, sausage, and the whole works! This beautiful Strawberry Croissant casserole recipe from my friend Rosalynn Daniels would be a perfect dish to serve.

Hosting a Galentine’s Day Brunch in your home avoids the reservations needed and the high prices of restaurants, plus you can show off all your fun kitchen gadgets at the same time. I mean, it doesn’t get any cuter than a heart-shaped waffle.

Galentine’s Day Party Essentials

Galentine’s Pajama Party Gear

If I host a brunch at my house, best believe I will be in my flyest pajamas because let’s be real, the best part about hosting at home is that you don’t have to get all dolled up to be out and about. Even if it’s pajamas, we can still be festive by wearing love-themed pajamas in hues of pink, ruby red, and fluffy, cozy textures. I love a great slipper to keep warm and I would sip my mimosa by the fireplace.

Galentine’s Day Gift Ideas

Even if you’re not able to see your girlfriends during the Galentine’s Day week, you could get them a little something to remind them of how much you appreciate their friendship! Thankfully, as always, it’s the thought that counts so even if it’s just a personalized note in a beautiful package. I absolutely love this one from Unlikely Martha and it would make my month to receive something like this from my girlfriend.

There are so many options for how to celebrate Galentine’s Day but the most important thing is that you take the time to do it when you can. Life is sweet and each day with have with our loved ones is precious. The older I get and especially since becoming a mom, I know I have to be more intentional about making happy memories. I hope these Galentine’s Day ideas encourage you to take the time to do the same!
